Jenny Ritter
Coming from a background saturated in music, Jenny really had no choice
but to follow the path of an active musician. When she was very young, her
Dad was an tenor in the opera, while Ma Ritter ran a ballet school. She sat
under the piano during rehearsals, and presumably soaked it all in
because... well, look where she is now! After years of torturous
Conservatory piano lessons, she was given a guitar for her fifteenth
birthday, and took to it like a fish to water. After squeaking through her
high school jazz program, there followed a year of vagabonding around the
US with Nicely Nicely, an acoustic rock quartet when Jenny was at the tender
age of 18. Then...with a newfound appreciation for beer and travel, in 2000
Jenny joined Phaedra (and ex-fiddler, Heather Cunliffe) to create Billy
Goats Gruff. The rest is band history...
These days Jenny currently resides in a wee house near the ocean in
Victoria, BC, where she procrastinates practicing guitar by playing banjo
instead, and is enjoying a healthy caffeine addiction. She freelances on
Irish guitar with renowned fiddler, Daniel Lapp, a Victoria staple for folk
music. She's also the main organizer of Roof Rabbit, a hip and contemporary
Irish instrumental quartet. To this day Jenny remains an all weather
cyclist, a lover of nature, and an obsessive Sunday crossword puzzle nut.
