Terri Upton
Terri’s musical career began like that of many
children: she was forced into piano lessons at an early age. She
didn’t much care for recitals and practicing, but fooling around on the
ivories stimulated the growth of her Jazz lobe. Later on, high atop
two telephone books in a grade school ukulele class in Victoria, BC; she
first plucked the strings of an upright bass. Its vibrations
thrilled her instantly. After graduation from high school and a trip
to the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, Terri began her professional music
studies at Malaspina University College. After her studies, Terri
dropped off the musical radar for two years, working for the Man in
Halifax, Duncan, and Victoria. The rare jazz/folk gig registered a
blip here and there, but her full reemergence only occurred after she
received a phone call from The Gruff, who for bassless reasons asked Terri
to accompany them on their 2005 tour. When not being Gruff, Terri
indulges in catnaps and an occasional response to the call of the night
life. |
